Meet the Large Animal Vet Team 

Phil Whiteley - PartnerPhil Whiteley - Partner

A farmer’s son from Yorkshire, Phil graduated from Cambridge University Vet School, qualifying in 1997. He joined MacArthur Barstow & Gibbs in 2000, becoming a partner in 2006. He concentrates his time on farm work and has a keen interest in bovine fertility and herd health. Phil is the senior veterinary surgeon for the Three Counties Show. He is an accomplished rower and fiercely competitive cyclist.



Anne Gibbs - PartnerAnne Gibbs - Partner

Anne qualified from Bristol in 1991 having intercalated in Pharmacology during her veterinary studies. She worked in mixed practice in Oxfordshire for a couple of years before returning home to the practice. Having been brought up on a farm and livery yard it is no surprise that Anne divides her time between farm and equine duties. She is a past chairman of the Association of Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons and provides veterinary cover at Ludlow and Worcester racecourses as well as local point to points. Anne has spoken at many farmer meetings and workshops and given presentations to the Sheep Veterinary Society. Outside work Anne tries to keep up with her teenage children, runs a little, enjoys her vintage tractor and all things rural.



ZaraZara Chew - Equine Vet

Zara qualified in 1993 and has worked in the Midlands ever since. For the past 10 years, she has concentrated solely on equine work, developing her interest in all aspects of the job. Zara is married with two children and several animals of her own including a cob who she likes to hack out when there is time.



Josie Rafferty - Farm and Equine VetJosie Rafferty - Farm and Equine Vet

Josie had worked in mixed practice for 4 years before joining our large animal team in 2009. This has allowed her to focus on farm animal work which she is passionate about. It has also enabled her to pursue her interests in preventative herd-health, mastitis in particular. Outside of work, Josie enjoys spending time in the garden and on woodland walks. She likes to travel, follow the rugby, and looking after Moog her cat.



Fiona Georgetti - Equine VetFiona Georgetti - Equine Vet

Fiona qualified in 2001 initially working in mixed practice. She travelled to New Zealand working predominantly in equine practice and then returned home to further pursue her equine career. Joining the practice in 2007, Fiona works part-time dividing her time between pony mad children and equine work. She has recently completed training in acupuncture and now uses the technique regularly as an additional therapy in many cases. Fiona is particularly interested in lameness cases and also in the management of chronic conditions in some of our more elderly patients.



Paula Hoppe - Farm and Equine VetPaula Hoppe - Farm and Equine Vet

Paula was born and bred in Germany. After she qualified in Berlin in 2010, Paula started to work in a predominantly large animal practice in the West Midlands. Paula enjoys dividing her time between farm, equine and small animals and has a keen interest in bovine and ovine reproduction. One of Paula's goals is to become more involved in the analysis of herd data. In her spare time, she enjoys riding and archery.

Jan - Office AssistantJan - Office Assistant

Jan has been with the practice for many many years and works in the office. She escapes off to Cornwall 3 or 4 times a year walking and kayaking and also enjoys amateur dramatics, singing, and baking.



Mary - Office ManagerMary - Office Manager

Mary has been with the practice since 1998 and is our office manager. She was brought up on a farm and is a trained farm secretary and accounting technician. She used to ride a lot doing point to pointing and 3-day events. She has an aviary with about 20 Zebra Finches and some Chinese quail.



Gill - Large Animal ReceptionGill - Large Animal Reception

Gill has worked with the practice since 2001. Originally on the small animal nursing team and now covers the large animal reception. Gill is from a local farming family and keeps a mixed bag of animals!! In her spare time, she helps out on the farm and rides horses.

Barbara joined the small animal reception team in February 2016. In her spare time she enjoys walks with her dog and joining her husband flying birds of prey, with several pets and 2 teenage sons, Barbara keeps herself very busy.



Jo - Human Resources ManagerJo - Human Resources Manager

Jo has worked with the practice for a very long time joining when Mr. Frank Moody was the senior partner. Jo has worked in all departments at one time or another and her current role is Human Resources Manager.

With 3 young children, she keeps busy providing a taxi service from one football match to another.




Emma is a local Farmer's Daughter and grew up on her Family's Mixed Farm. She is very passionate about farming and runs a small flock of her own ewes. Emma has joined the team in large animal helping in the office, also going out with the vets on farm and getting her hands dirty with various tasks.

Socially Emma has been Chairman of Bromsgrove Young Farmers Club; she has also done a bit of travelling overseas & been to see how the Southern Hemisphere likes to farm spending time in Australia & New Zealand. In her spare time, she gets out and about with her horse and any work that needs doing with the sheep. She also likes taking her dogs on walks.
