The SGM Supper Club
It has been suggested that Members who have contributed to the MCC Online Pavilion "Club Discussion" should be entitled to attend a Special Gourmet Meal event at Lords. I myself have toyed with a similar idea of creating a "200 Club" whose sole purpose would be to hold the MCC Committee to account with the use of SGM's if necessary. Many of these contributors will have supported SGM's in the past and on two recent occasions the Committee has been defeated in postal ballots - notably the issue of the BSkyB broadcasting contract.
It seems to me that creating an SGM Supper Club would be an excellent idea with the serious purpose of holding the MCC Committee to account whenever necessary. The use of the Internet to collect the necessary documents to call an SGM would be a very strong sanction that would be used to curb the arbitrary powers of the MCC Committee. Indeed the existence of a mechanism that can be used rapidly as a sanction would in many cases be a sufficient deterrent.
There are three major issues that should be resolved through an SGM soonest
1) MCC Members are no longer prepared to accept an unlimited financial liability at Lords.
2) MCC should withdraw from membership of the ECB in order to regain the independent voice necessary to speak as the owner of the Laws of Cricket and Lords Ground.
3) The Masterplan should be shelved in the present economic climate
