News Item 1 - Christmas Advice
Happy Christmas Everybody
We all like to treat and spoil each other and our pets at this festive time but please be aware of some of the dangers particularly associated with this time of year.
Chocolate - Human chocolate can be toxic for animals. We tend to have more chocolate around at christmas so please be careful. We have treated dogs that have become ill from sniffing out and eating chocolates that have been presents wrapped up under the tree, as well as those that have been mistakenly fed chocolate. Dogs can easily become very ill from eating chocolate (especially Dark chocolate). Small qualtities tend to cause vomiting and diarhoea, whilst larger amounts can cause nerve disorders, muscle tremours and heart rhythm abnormalities that can be fatal.
Good Food - too much fat and meat in a dog's diet (whilst very tasty) can cause diarrhoea and vomiting - definately not something you want to have to deal with on Boxing Day. Some smaller terrier type dogs can get painful pancreatic inflammation causing severe vomiting and may require hospitalisation.
* Anti-freeze * - A few people still carry out work on their cars, if you do or know somebody that does, please be aware of the dangers of coolant, brake and other fluids that may contain Anti-freeze which cats particularly can drink as it has no smell and can easily be mistaken for water. This toxin is rapidly absorbed and within hours causes neurological disorders such as muslce tremours and fitting, kidney and heart failure and eventually death. Unfortunately unless the animal is correctly diagnosed and treated within 12hours of ingestion (ideally within 30 minutes!) there is little hope of recovery. Please make sure that any coolant fluids etc. are kept secure and are cleaned up after use.

We are very grateful to our clients who have nominated us in the awards this year. This year we recieved nominations in 3 separate categories:

Vet of the Year - James Allsop MRCVS
We work very hard to provide the higest standards of veterinary care and client satisfaction and we are very grateful that our efforts have been recognised in this way. Unfortunately nominations are confidential so we would like to say a big 'Thank You' to whoever nominated us, we really appreciate it.
News Item 3 - Advent Charity Prizes
Through out the advent period we will be holding a dialy raffle to win various prizes from cuddly toys, flea/worming product and even your pet's next vaccination. It costs £1 per attempt and you have a 1in24 chance of winning each day. ALL money collected will go to Lylac Ridge Community Project. Please be generous, we raised over £250 last year for All Creatures Great and Small rehoming centre.
News Item 4 - Recent Changes to the Practice
Last year we worked hard to improve the general running of the practice, we also updated our practice logo which helps to reflect the practice better. We have also invested in a new animal ambulance – which we hope will enable us to offer a wider range of services to our clients and continue our house visit and food/prescription delivery service.

By improving the efficiency within the practice we have been able to reduce the cost of our kitten and puppy vaccines. At the end of January we launched our kitten and puppy vaccination packages which reflect a significant saving on the essential services that kittens and puppies will need within the first 12months with you.
