24 Hour Emergency Service
In an Emergency
- During Opening Hours
If you have an emergency during normal opening hours please phone 01633 264850. If necessary you may be asked to bring your pet to the surgery immediately.
On arrival if the Vets are currently busy with other patients your pet will be assessed by our Registered Veterinary Nurses and a Veterinary Surgeon will attend to you as soon as possible. In cases of genuine emergency a Veterinary Surgeon will attent to your pet immediately and provide the best care possible.
- Out of hours care
If you have an emergency with your pet when we are closed just phone our normal number 01633 264850 to be automatically redirected to our emergency service (please note phone calls may be recorded). If for any reason you can not get through to them on this number please call 02920 529446.
At Fields we feel that your pet deserves best care and attention possible even at midnight on a bank holiday. Our 'Out-of-Hours' care is provided by the Veterinary Emergency Treatment Service (V.E.T.S.). The service is staffed 24 hours a day by qualified veterinary surgeons and nurses experienced in Emergency Medicine and has clinics in both Cardiff and Ystrad Mynach. At least one on-duty Veterinary Surgeon, directly responsible for the care of in-patients and any new admissions, will be on the premises at all times during all of the hours of operation of the Emergency Clinic.
Because this is a dedicated emergency service the staff have not already worked all day and will not be on duty the following day either, they just cover the out-of-hours period. These vets and nurses are therefore rested and ready to deal with any veterinary emergency that you may need them for. If you are unable to take your pet to the surgery an ambulance service is available to transport your pet to the surgery where the best care can then be provided, please discuss this requirment when you call.
In addition to the Veterinary Surgeon, at least one other on duty member of staff (whose role is the active involvement in nursing and medical care of patients) will be on the premises during all of the hours of operation of the Emergency Clinic.
At least one of the members of staff on the premises of the Emergency Clinic, during its hours of operation, will be awake at all times in order to provide in-patient monitoring and treatment.
