Clinics

NEW Cat Clinic

Here at Fields we are constantly trying to improve our service for our valued clients. Because cats are easily stressed when they visit the vets we would like to minimise this by offering a Cat Friendly Clinic. This clinic will run every Tuesday and Wednesday between 3.30- 4.30pm. All non-cat emergencies can still be seen during these times. For more information please ring the surgery.

Weight clinics
All of the qualified nurses are involved in the weigh-in clinics. These are designed to help pets lose weight and have a better quality of life. These clinics are held by appointment between 2-4pm Tuesdays although other appointment times can be arranged if necessary. Please contact reception for details.

Diabetes Clinics

Our qualified nurse Jemma Herbert VN has attended a diabetes course to help owners of diabetic pets with the practical difficulties of managing these complicated patients. In order to provide the most successful treatment for diabetic dogs and cats it is vital that there is good communication between pet owners and the veterinary staff. Jemma provides the first point of contact for pet owners following initial diagnosis and stabilisation of the condition and also throughout this normally lifelong condition.

If necessary Jemma can then discuss the cases with our veterinary surgeons and alter treatment protocols as necessary.
It is of course necessary for the pet to be seen by a veterinary surgeon on a regular basis but much of the client education and practical support can be provided on a much more personal basis by the nurses.

Acupuncture clinics (Tim Ingham MRCVS)
I have been using Acupuncture to treat chronic painful conditions such as arthritis and spondylitis since 2004.
Acupuncture is especially useful in animals that do not respond well with conventional treatments. Initially patients have weekly sessions, which last for approximately 20 minutes then we increase the duration between sessions. Most dogs seem to respond to acupuncture although an improvement is not necessarily seen after the first session.

I qualified from the University of Bristol School in June 2000 and worked full time at Fields for 3 years. I currently work in the Veterinary Emergency Treatment Clinic in Cardiff which provides the Out-of-Hours service for Fields. I visit Fields to carry out accupuncture clinics, with appointments arranged to suite the pet owners. Please contact Fields Reception to arrange an appointment.
