Dental Care

A common complaint is a petÂ’s bad breath. This is usually due to dental problems such as the build-up of plaque or tartar. If untreated this can lead to gum disease (gingivitis) and teeth root abscesses.

Under a general anaesthetic we are able to scale and polish teeth using ultrasound equipment. As a preventative measure we recommend toothbrushing. Brushes and special flavoured enzyme toothpaste for dogs and cats are available at reception. However, many of our clients find brushing nigh on impossible, and Logic Oral Hygiene gel is one of our best selling products from the waiting room. This is a very tasty gel, given once a day to kill bacteria in the mouth, and this reduces the amount of plaque formed. Also, the Hills Oral Care foods are very interesting, and a recent clinical trial has shown that the food is even more effective than brushing the teeth. This dry food is presented as bicuits that do not shatter on contact with the teeth, but the teeth glide through the biscuit, wiping away the plaque. The bicuits are too large to be swallowed whole thus ensuring that they are bitten into, and the teeth cleaned.
