Vaccinations and Neutering

At Brookend Veterinary Surgery we provide a wide range of services designed to help you to keep your pet in the best of health.

Vaccinations
We strongly advise vaccination of puppies, kittens, rabbits and ferrets. It is then important that regular boosters are given throughout the life of your pet. Once you have started a vaccination programme with us, booster reminder cards will be sent to you at the correct times.

Neutering
It is advisable to have all cats neutered at six months of age unless they are to be kept specifically for breeding. As far as dogs are concerned, it is generally recommended to spay bitches, not only for convenience and to prevent unwanted puppies, but to reduce the risk of mammary and womb disease. The castration of male dogs reduces the incidence of hernias, prostate gland and anal disorders and often helps in the case of certain behavioural problems. We also feel that neutered rabbits - both male and female - make better pets. We now know that female rabbits are very prone to womb disease as they get older. Please feel free to ask the vet for further advice.
