Behavioural Problems

Brookend Veterinary Surgery works closely with local dog behaviour counsellor Dawn Turner BSc(Hons)MSc to help dog owners who are experiencing problems with their pets.

If your dog has a problem such as destructiveness, aggression, nervousness, house soiling or any behaviour that is anti-social then it is likely that we will be able to help you.  Dawn Turner is an associate of the Pet Behaviour Centre in Worcestershire.

Consultations are arranged by the surgery. They used to take place on the premises but we now consider it preferable to see the dog away from the surgery where the dog is more likely to exhibit his usual behaviour. The appointment usually lasts for one hour to give plenty of time for a thorough discussion.

There are two new anti-anxiety medications now licensed for dogs, and they are proving to be quite effective especially when combined with behaviour training. They have to be prescribed by a veterinary surgeon and this is an example of where the close cooperation between the Brookend vets and our behaviour consultant is so important.
